Top Prize at the Travel Photographer’s Conference!

Last week Jessie attended the annual Book Passage Travel Writer’s and Photographer’s Conference in Marin, CA taking top prize in the Photography competition! Judging was done on a selection of three photographs submitted by each participant. Here are Jessie’s winning shots :

Mendoza (Argentina); Wine Country & Marita Lavosier

Heres’ a cool story - we met an incredibly interesting woman who reminded us a bit of Georgia O’Keefe. Here name is Marita Lavosier and she’s an artist who is quite famous in that part of Argentina. We first noticed her work at a the little artist hotel we stayed at, Parador Del Angel. After seeing her paintings all over the valley, at Bodega Salentein and Zuccardi we finally, on our last day, asked the owner of our little boutique hotel about her. It turned out that Marita is his mother in law and we got a private tour of her studio. Long story short we did a photo shoot of her and her work that afternoon and got to keep one of our favorite pieces. An interesting shoot with my minimal Spanish skills and Marita’s minimal English. Argentina

We took our first trip to South America this year! We visited Argentina and took a quick peek at Uruguay. We stayed in Buenos Aires mostly, renting a great studio apartment from ByT Argentina in Palermo Viejo (a fun, hip section of the city) and visited Mendoza (the Napa Valley of Argentina).
